Sod Installation

Once you have prepped the lot for sod installation, keep these tips in mind as you set about to complete your landscaping project.

  • Always lay your sod as soon as possible once it has arrived at the job site.  The longer sod sits around, the more likely it is to dry out and become more difficult to work with.
  • Be sure to install the rolls of sod at a 90-degree angle to the slope of the property by laying sod along a straight edge, such as a sidewalk, driveway, or retaining wall.  Always begin at the lowest point on the property.
  • Lay the joints as close together as possible without actually overlapping to create a smooth and unbroken layer of sod.
  • Stagger each row of sod in a brick-work pattern to maximize space usage.
  • Use a sharp utility knife to cut and shape sod to fit around trees or curves, or other natural obstacles in the lot.
  • Begin watering the sod within 30 minutes of installation–even if you haven’t finished laying all of the sod.

Phew!  Now the hard part is over.  But that doesn’t mean the job is finished!  If you don’t properly care for your sod, all of that hard work could be for nothing!
